Although GMO trading is not the oldest or the biggest broker around, their offering is solid and the trading conditions fair, with extra security coming from their regulated status.

Regulation plus meta trader 4 equals “A match made in heaven” when it comes to brokers and gmotrading has both. On top of that, they offer the web version of meta trader (webtrader), which brings you all the features of MT4 without the need to download or install anything.

Why GMO trading sucks in 50 words

The range of trading assets available on their demo account is limited compared to the full asset list on the real account. The purpose of a demo account is usually is to emulate real market conditions and to offer the client a glance at the broker’s services and trading conditions but if they don’t have all assets, how can the client make a proper assessment? If I were to judge them based on the demo experience, I would say the offering is too small. This is not a deal-breaker, we’re talking about demo after all, just something to keep in mind.

Is GMO trading A scam?

One of the main ways to see if a broker is a scam or not is to check their regulation. A broker with full regulation is constantly audited, asked to submit compliance documents and has to maintain strict capital requirements among other things. GMO trading is regulated by CYSEC, and so far there haven’t been any reports of misconduct so we don’t have any reason to suspect them of being a scam.

That being said, I don’t like their “we are the best” approach. A quick glance at their “about GMO trading” section and all you’ll see are buzzwords and self-praise. The best, “unparalleled trading environment and services” and more… feels a bit cheesy but it doesn’t make them a scam.

Should I open an account with GMO trading?

Regulated by CYSEC, meta trader 4 for desktop, browser, and mobile, lots of education material and a relatively low deposit. What’s not to like? Well, a couple of things: this broker relies on buzzwords and hype a bit too much so I would say their marketing team is a bit overzealous.

They have three types of accounts – silver, gold, and platinum – but they don’t say how much you need to deposit for each one and they only list leverage information for professional traders on the accounts page. Leverage info for retail clients is available under trading conditions (1:30 max).

Education comes in the form of videos, e-books, courses, and tutorials, which are all great for newbies but of little interest to advanced traders. Let’s be honest, advanced traders will not find anything to learn from any broker, mainly because the education material on brokers’ websites is geared towards the entry-level user.

Overall the website has a nice presentation but I would like to see more information about trading conditions, including spreads, minimum deposits, and a full asset list (such a list is available under “swap charges” but that’s not the first place you would think to look). That being said, I believe gmotrading has an advantage over its competitors: the CYSEC regulation, which comes with extra perks and safety features (transparency, segregated accounts, compensation fund in case the broker goes bankrupt, etc.). But on the other hand, you can find a lot of regulated brokers nowadays, so this is not such a rare feature.

Many gmotrading clients have complained about “bully” tactics and high-pressure marketing. This is in line with what we’ve said about their overzealous marketing team, so it’s probably time for them to cut back a little on all that pressure. We’ve also found people who say the brokerage spends the clients’ money without permission (by opening trades, presumably), but we couldn’t confirm any of that and after all, this type of complaint was made at one time or another against the majority of brokers.

The processing time for withdrawals is fast: same day if the request comes early in the morning or next day if the request comes later in the day.

Ti sottolineiamo ancora che è impossibile con solo 250 euro di deposito riuscire a guadagnare in poche ore 5 mila euro.

When you hear the name GMO trading, you may think this company competing with monsanto, but in reality this is a forex broke. We didn’t manage to find the meaning of the abbreviation, but on the other hand found out this is a cysec regulated broker. While this is a strong feature, there are some others which we don’t appreciate as much,

Cysec regulation
GMO trading is owned by royal forex ltd., which is registered with the cyprus securities and exchange commission (cysec). The legal environment in which a broker operates should be your biggest concern, when comparing them and the cypriot regulatory agency is one of the most respected ones.

Up to 1:200 in leverage
trading on margin is risky, but the only way to effectively access the forex market. That being said, the options provided by GMO trading are rather nice. With “gearing” going as high as 1:200 no one will be left behind.

Metatrader4 trading platform
GMO trading provides access to the global financial markets via an industry leading platform. Developed by metaquotes, this piece of software offers a standalone desktop application, a mobile app and a web version. This may be impressive, but is nothing when compared to the amazing functionality. With excellent charting, support for automated trading systems and multiple ways to copy trade, it is second to none. Here is a prebiew of the platform provided by GMO trading.

Demo not easy to run
when setting up an account with GMO trading we realized the demo account is hard to run on the desktop version of the platform, as the server is not added to it by default. We didn’t wanted to bother looking up the settings (which the customer support team should be able to provide), so we registered a real account. This leads us to the next two points.

Questions upon registration
when setting up the account we had to fill in information about our trading experience. This isn’t a negative by itself, as it protects a newcomer to the global markets. What frustrates us, is the fact this process takes place during the account creation, instead of later on. We realize this is required by the regulators, but maybe putting it before making your first deposit will be better.

Accounts only in EUR and GBP
the second key thing we noted when creating our account is the fact USD was not option for our base currency. While this may sound ok to those of you who are based in europe, it may not be to the rest of the world. Additionally a lot of currency pairs are quoted in USD and your trading results are actually measured in the currency. Doing the conversion on every trade can be annoying.

Some details not mentioned
GMO trading’s overall presentation is rather nice. That being the case, several key points are not mentioned on the company’s website. They include: a full instrument list, the minimum deposit requirement and the target spreads. The last point is quite unusual for a regulated broker.

Rather high spreads
the fact spreads are not disclosed at GMO trading did not stop us from revealing them, when testing the MT4 platform. During the middle of the european session, when liquidity is expected to be quite high, the EUR/USD one was fluctuating around 2.2 – 2.6 pips. This is simply unacceptable in the current day and age. Trading conditions for GMO trading

Trade executions are fast and orders are promptly processed with little lags. GMO trading does not charge commissions. Its trading fees are incorporated into the spread which varies according to account type and market conditions. The maximum leverage is 1:500 for professional clients only and 1:30 for retail clients (forex majors). Rollover fees are charged for accounts that hold a positive position overnight. However, there are discounts of 25% and 50% for gold and platinum account holders respectively.

An account without any activity for a period of 60 days is declared dormant and a monthly charge of €80 will be deducted from the account balance. The following subsequent fees are charged:

Dormant for over 91 days, a fee of €120 per month is applicable.

Dormant for over 181 days, a fee of €200 per month is applicable.

Dormant for over 301 days, a fee of €500 per month is applicable.

The gold account is recommended for intermediate traders. It gives access to webinars and videos as educational content. A dedicated account manager is available for guidance. There is a swap discount of 25%. The benchmark EURUSD spread starts from 1.3 pips and the leverage is capped at 1:400.

This is the premium account provided by GMO trading. It features the tightest spread which starts for 0.7 pips for the EURUSD. GMO trading only charges from the spread and no commissions. The spread for the EURUSD currency pair is as low as 0.7pips for platinum account holders.
